From gluten-free millets to aromatic spices, here are the Indian agricultural exports seeing the strongest buyer interest this year.
India's agricultural export basket is broad, but a handful of categories are seeing particularly strong demand from international buyers right now — driven by shifting consumer preferences abroad as much as by supply-side strength at home.
Pearl millet (bajra), finger millet (ragi) and foxtail millet are increasingly stocked by health-food retailers and gluten-free product lines in North America, Europe and the Gulf. Their appeal is straightforward: naturally gluten-free, high in fibre, and positioned as an "ancient grain" alternative to rice or wheat.
Buyers supplying premium retail or food-service channels increasingly prefer whole spices — black pepper, cardamom, cloves, cumin — over pre-ground powder, both for shelf life and for the ability to verify quality (colour, size, oil content) before grinding locally.
Raisins, dates and desiccated coconut remain steady, high-volume categories for bakery, confectionery and snack manufacturing buyers — less trend-driven than millets or specialty spices, but consistently in demand.
If you're evaluating which category to start with, millets and whole spices currently offer the strongest combination of demand growth and supplier depth in the Indian export market. Both also tend to work well for trial orders below a full container, making them a lower-risk way to test a new supplier relationship.
